How we score

A transparent breakdown of what your Reddit Sentiment Score actually measures.

What we analyse

We scan the Reddit threads that currently rank on Google when someone searches your brand name. These are the threads your prospects, investors, and partners actually see - the ones shaping perception right now. We analyse up to 20 of the highest-ranking threads per brand.

The four signals

Your Reddit Sentiment Score is a composite of four weighted signals, each measuring a different dimension of how Reddit is affecting your brand.

40 per cent

Sentiment

We classify each thread as positive, neutral, or negative based on how the discussion reads from a prospective customer's point of view. Sarcasm, irony, and comparative complaints (“I switched from X to Y”) are accounted for. The average sentiment across all analysed threads contributes the largest share of your score.

25 per cent

Negative density

What proportion of your Google-ranking Reddit threads are negative? A brand with 2 negative threads out of 20 is in a very different position than a brand with 14 out of 20. This signal measures how much of the visible conversation is hostile.

20 per cent

Recency-weighted hostility

Recent threads matter more than old ones. A scam accusation from last week is more damaging than one from two years ago. Threads from the last 90 days are weighted twice as heavily as older threads when calculating this signal.

15 per cent

Severity of complaints

Not all complaints are equal. A mild pricing gripe scores lower than a fraud accusation or a viral thread warning others to stay away. We classify complaint severity on a 0-10 scale and factor the proportion of high-severity complaints into your final score.

The verdict bands

Your composite score maps to one of five verdict bands.

0-20Reddit loves you
21-40Reddit is mostly fine with you
41-60Reddit is mixed on you
61-80Reddit is roasting you
81-100Reddit hates you

What we don't capture

The Reddit Sentiment Score reflects threads that currently rank on Google for your brand name. It does not capture threads that mention your brand without using the name in the title, threads Google hasn't indexed yet, or discussions in private subreddits. It is a measure of visible reputation - what your market actually sees when they search for you - not a comprehensive audit of every Reddit mention.
